These are the rules of using Devout Football. We have written them in plain English rather than legal language, and everything below describes what the app actually does.

The short version. You need to be 13 or over. Everything you earn — points, your place in the tables, badges — is earned by doing something, and none of it can be bought, with one exception: a badge that marks a Season Pass member. What you post is checked before other fans see it. The Season Pass buys more of your own record, never an advantage over anybody else. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time, and everything goes.

Who these terms are with

Devout Football and this website are provided by Devout Sports Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17452946 ("Devout", "we", "us"). By creating an account you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not create one.

How old you have to be

Devout is for fans aged 13 and over. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and refuse the account if you are younger.

If you are under 18, you can read everything and use every part of your own record — check-ins, points, badges, ratings, your album — but you cannot post free text where other fans will see it. That means no posts or replies on the Terrace and no written comments in the Dugout. Your marks out of ten still count in full. Writing unlocks on your eighteenth birthday.

Your account

One account per person. Do not share it, and do not use somebody else's.
Keep your password to yourself. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
You can delete your account from Settings inside the app, whenever you like, without asking us. It is permanent and it takes your record with it.

Checking in honestly

Checking in is how the app knows you were there. Check-in opens an hour before kick-off and closes at the final whistle.

When you check in at the ground, the app takes a single location reading at that moment to confirm you are there. It does not track you before or after. You can also check in from the pub, from home, or from a friend's — those are honest answers and they count, they just count for less than being there, which is the entire point of the tables.

We can correct a record. If a check-in is obviously false — a ground you could not have been at, or a pattern no person could produce — we may remove it and the points that came with it. We would rather deter it than police it, and we will not remove anything without a reason.

Points, tables and badges

None of it is for sale. Points, your position in any table, and badges are earned by doing something and cannot be bought, gifted or granted for payment. There is one exception, and it is deliberate: the Season Pass badge, which shows that you hold a Season Pass. It gives no points and no position, and it does not count towards any other badge.
Badges are earned once and stay earned. A new season does not take them away.
There is no gambling anywhere in Devout, and predicting a score never costs money and never pays money.
Point values and the rules that award them are set by us and can change between seasons. Where a change would remove something you have already earned, it will not be applied backwards.

What you post

You keep ownership of your photographs, clips and words. By posting them you give us permission to store and display them inside the app to the fans who are meant to see them, and nothing more. We do not sell them, license them to anyone, or use them in advertising.

Everything posted publicly is checked automatically the moment you submit it, and anything flagged is hidden from other fans and looked at by a person. While that is happening you can still see your own post marked as being checked.

Football is a rough-tongued business and we are not squeamish: criticising a player, a manager or a referee is the point of the app. Abuse aimed at a person, hatred of any group, and threats of any kind are not, and they are removed. Repeatedly posting them will cost you the account.

Match data

Fixtures, line-ups, scores and events come from a third-party football data provider. Coverage is excellent in the higher divisions and patchier further down, so some matches carry less detail than others. Where data is missing the app shows less rather than guessing, and a corrected feed is reflected the next time the match is processed.

The Season Pass

The Season Pass is an optional subscription, £3.99 a month or £34.99 a year. It is bought through the App Store or Google Play, and those are also where it renews, where the price is charged, and where you cancel it. We cannot cancel or refund it for you — that is the store's job, and their refund rules apply.

The Pass buys depth, never advantage: room for a whole season of photographs, the fuller numbers behind your season, your Season in Review, and every season you have ever had. It does not buy points, position, or anything that could move you above another fan. The one thing it adds to your cabinet is the Season Pass badge, which marks you as a member and does not count towards any other badge.

It renews automatically until you cancel it, through the store, at least a day before it is due.

Physical patches

Some badges can be bought as a real embroidered patch. Only after you have earned the badge — the patch is proof of something you did, not a way to acquire it. Patches are sold separately from the Pass and posted to you.

Keeping the app running

We will do our best to keep Devout available and accurate, but we cannot promise it will never be down, and a football data feed is not ours to guarantee. We may change features, and we will tell you in the app when a change is significant.

Ending it

You can leave at any time by deleting your account in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — for cheating check-ins, for abuse, or for anything unlawful. If we do, we will tell you why.

The legal bit

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. Nothing here affects your rights as a consumer.
