Child Safety Standards

Devout Football is an app for football supporters, and some of them are children. This page sets out how we keep them safe, what we forbid outright, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

We have no tolerance for child sexual abuse or exploitation. Any content, contact or behaviour that sexualises a child is removed, the account behind it is closed, and we report it to the authorities. There is no warning and no second chance.

What we forbid

Child sexual abuse material of any kind, real or generated.
Sexualising a child in words, pictures or video.
Grooming, or any attempt to make contact with a child for a sexual purpose.
Trading, advertising or asking for any of the above.

How the app is built to protect children

13 and over. We ask for a date of birth when an account is made and refuse anyone younger.
Under-18s cannot post public writing. They can read everything and their scores and check-ins count in full, but posts, replies and written comments unlock at 18.
There is no private messaging. Devout has no direct messages, no inbox and no way for one fan to contact another privately. Everything written is written in the open, to fans of the same club.
Photos and video stay private. A fan's matchday pictures are part of their own record and are never shown to other fans.
Everything public is checked before it appears. Every post, reply, match room message and ground comment goes through an automatic safety check on the way in. Anything it flags is hidden from other fans and read by a person before it can appear.
Anyone can report anything. Every post, reply, match room message and ground comment carries a report control, which puts it in front of a moderator.
Anyone can block anyone. Blocking hides both fans from each other everywhere in the app, and the blocked fan is not told.
An account can be deleted at any time, from inside the app, and it takes the fan's content with it.

What we do when we find it

We remove the content immediately.
We close the account behind it.
We preserve what the law requires us to preserve, and hand it to the authorities.
We report child sexual abuse material to the Internet Watch Foundation and, where a child may be at risk, to CEOP at the UK's National Crime Agency.

Telling us about it

Inside the app, use the report control on the post, reply, message or comment. It reaches a moderator and the fan who wrote it is never told who reported it.

You can also write to us at support@devoutfootball.com. Put "child safety" in the subject line and it goes to the top of the queue. This address is our point of contact for child safety matters, including for app stores and for law enforcement.

If a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 999 before you contact us.

The law

We comply with UK law on child sexual abuse and exploitation, including our duties under the Online Safety Act 2023, and with the child safety policies of the App Store and Google Play. Devout Football is run by Devout Sports Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17452946.
